Existence of Evil v Goodness of God
Question:-
How do we reconcile the creation of a sexually abused victim child and Most Just God?
Comment:-
The question is rather ambiguous and appears to have a hidden agenda. It is only part of a more general problem about how we can reconcile the existence of evil with a God who is omnipotent and Good.
But nevertheless, here is a tentative answer:-
(1) Evil is the absence of good.
(2) What we might regard as evil is not necessarily objectively evil. It may have good consequences. We learn from what hurts and punish in order to deter. It may be something that we are required to overcome in order to strengthen ourselves - like exercise.
(3) The further one is from God, the source of goodness, qualitatively speaking, the further one is from goodness.
All actions, no matter at what point, have causes and consequences according to law whether it is the perpetrator or the victim. But we cannot isolate anything - everything is inter-connected and forms a unified system. The guilt or merit for any event does not, therefore, rest entirely on any individual. The whole society must be responsible for what happens.
Human beings also have minds. We can regard our circumstances as a test or challenge and act accordingly. The suffering and pleasure, fortune or misfortunes also provide incentives to development. Evolution is driven by it.
We live in a world which is far from God in that there are a great number of restricting forces. We are required to deal with our situation as best we can. Human beings are in this world because we are required to learn and develop; and are agents of God in the administration and development of this world.
We can draw a circle representing humanity and a little circle within it representing a person. Though all kinds of forces from the larger circle enter into the small circle and radiate out of it into the larger circle, the area for the development of which the individual soul is responsible is in the small circle. This will inevitably affect the development of the large circle also and vice versa.
If the question is about the human soul, then the following Quranic verses apply:-
"Say: O mankind! There has come to you the Truth from your Lord, and he who is guided by it, his guidance is only for his own soul; and he who errs, errs only against it; and I am not a warder over you." 10:109
"And every man's augury (fate) have We fastened on his own neck; and We will bring forth for him on the Day of Judgment a book offered to him wide open." 17:13
"Verily, We have revealed to you the Book with the truth for the sake of mankind; so whoever follows the right way, it is for the good of his own soul and whoever errs, he errs only to its injury; and you are not a custodian over them." 39:41
"O ye who believe! Ye have charge of (or guardianship of ) your own souls; he who errs can do you no hurt if ye are rightly guided: unto Allah will you all return, and He will declare to you the truth of that which ye did. " 5:105
